If I’ve learned one thing about maintaining clear skin, it’s that staying well-hydrated is absolutely key. Water is obviously amazing for you, it detoxes our body naturally and can give our skin a huge boost, but fresh juices can also make a major impact.

Fresh juices are not only hydrating, after all, most fruits and vegetables are made primarily of water, but you also get the added benefits of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are within those fruits as well!

From my experience, when my skin needs a boost, adding a juice or two per day gives it such a fresh, glow that water alone doesn’t seem to accomplish. And, because of all those added nutrients, vitamins and powerful antioxidants, you’re giving your body exactly what it needs to help boost your immune system and stay healthy year-round.

I know that I talk a lot about beauty products and which ones are the best to keep your skin looking clear and healthy, but at the end of the day, the health of our skin starts within.

If you want a healthy glow that lasts, you have to make healthier changes to your diet, add more fruits and veggies, and stay hydrated. Juice is great for boosting your hydration and giving more antioxidants, nutrients and vitamins than you can get from water alone.

You can make juice in a high-powered blender and then strain the pulp, but I find that it’s easier to just get a juicer. I tried the blender method and it was just too much work!

I bought this one from Amazon well over a year ago for about $55 and it’s still making incredible juices! You can put the parts in the dishwasher too, so clean up is a breeze. I included a few more here that I’ve heard great things about and all are under $150.

I find this especially helpful in the colder months when we’re more prone to illness and colds. For the most part, celery juice, or some sort of green juice is my go-to, but I wanted to share a few more that I’ve made that are also great for you!

Generally speaking, homemade juices won’t ever do you harm. But if losing weight is your most priority by any means, let’s opt for juices that are low in sugar.

Juice Cleanse Day 1, Green Juice Recipe

Yesterday was the first day of my cleanse. It was also a weird day. Weird because it was January 1st, New Year’s Day. The night before, I went to a New Year’s Eve dinner party and it was a serious feast! I left the party very full and didn’t get to bed until 3am. Not my normal schedule, so Day 1 of the cleanse ended up being a little different.

I woke up around 11am still feeling full from the night before. I didn’t end up having my first juice until 3:30pm.

I drank only about 32 oz of juice throughout the whole day. I will probably have more today, since I woke up earlier and have a full day ahead of me. The “Reboot” program recommends 4-6 16-20 oz juices each day. (so I really drank only 1/2 the recommended amount of juice).

I drank only green juice (recipe below). Today I am going to make the same green juice again, but also experiment with another kind of juice too. Probably carrot.

I also didn’t remember to drink a lot of water on Day 1. I did have a big coconut water and some detox tea, but today I’m going to drink a lot more water (very important to help wash toxins out of your body during a cleanse)!

The only time that was hard for me was when my boyfriend was eating dinner. I kept smelling his food. So I got a couple of different teas and a coconut water so I felt like I had some variety.

Day 1 stats:

Energy level: High for most of the day, because I felt totally READY for this cleanse. I didn’t really want food at all.
I went to a basic/restorative yoga class at 4:30pm after I had some juice. It felt great.
Sleep: I actually didn’t sleep very well at all last night. I kept waking up hungry! I don’t think I drank enough juice.
Weight after Day 1: down 2.2 lbs
$ spent on juice ingredients: $36.89 (these ingredients will carry on to today, so hopefully I won’t have to spend that much every day. Also, I bought organic produce so the price is a little higher than conventional).
Feeling: a little headachey, but pretty good!

Green Juice Recipe:
This is the recipe for the “Mean Green” juice that Joe Cross and Phil Staples drink on “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.” Makes about 16-20 oz of juice depending on your juicer/size of produce.

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 1/2 a lemon
  • 1 inch ginger root

Clearly, I multiplied this recipe to make more juice for the day.
