5 Easy-to-Make Fresh Juice Recipes For Clear Skin

If I’ve learned one thing about maintaining clear skin, it’s that staying well-hydrated is absolutely key. Water is obviously amazing for you, it detoxes our body naturally and can give our skin a huge boost, but fresh juices can also make a major impact.

Fresh juices are not only hydrating, after all, most fruits and vegetables are made primarily of water, but you also get the added benefits of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are within those fruits as well!

From my experience, when my skin needs a boost, adding a juice or two per day gives it such a fresh, glow that water alone doesn’t seem to accomplish. And, because of all those added nutrients, vitamins and powerful antioxidants, you’re giving your body exactly what it needs to help boost your immune system and stay healthy year-round.

Related: What to Eat for Clear Skin

I know that I talk a lot about beauty products and which ones are the best to keep your skin looking clear and healthy, but at the end of the day, the health of our skin starts within.

If you want a healthy glow that lasts, you have to make healthier changes to your diet, add more fruits and veggies, and stay hydrated. Juice is great for boosting your hydration and giving more antioxidants, nutrients and vitamins than you can get from water alone.

You can make juice in a high-powered blender and then strain the pulp, but I find that it’s easier to just get a juicer. I tried the blender method and it was just too much work!

I bought this one from Amazon well over a year ago for about $55 and it’s still making incredible juices! You can put the parts in the dishwasher too, so clean up is a breeze. I included a few more here that I’ve heard great things about and all are under $150.

Best Juicers

I find this especially helpful in the colder months when we’re more prone to illness and colds. For the most part, celery juice, or some sort of green juice is my go-to, but I wanted to share a few more that I’ve made that are also great for you!

Green Juice Benefits

1. For Weight Loss

Generally speaking, homemade juices won’t ever do you harm. But if losing weight is your most priority by any means, let’s opt for juices that are low in sugar.

Not all juices are calorie-low. The serving size you make and the ingredients you put to grind decide whether the juice is light enough— worst-case scenario, they can (inconsistently) give you a serious boost in both calories and carbs.

So how can we make green juice that’s light and clean? Simple question asked— you need to go heavy on the vegetables and at the same time, cut down on the fruits going into your juice.

Green juice is worth an aid in weight loss when it’s packed leafy greens and with only a small amount of fruits working at the background for aroma and better taste. In other words, vegetables are the drink base. It would make no sense to jack up fruits to make it a tasty desirable juice of your favorite, because this means a real sugar crash later. Also, please don’t try to add a lot of carrots or beets to make it a finer juice that it already is— sweet vegetables bring more sugar to the party, too.

For these all-purpose ingredients, we will get to know them better in the below section. For now, here’s a few to put to your grocery list: cucumber, spinach, celery, wheatgrass, parsley, mint, and kale.

For the best weight loss results, it is important to combine green juices with diets that focus on lean protein foods and healthy fats to keep you full without experiencing blood sugar spike, rather than regular diets with a whole lot of refined carbohydrate sources.

2. On Your Skin

There is this common saying that if you’re not eating enough veggies, drinking green juice is an easier way to consume legumes. We believe it’s a need to stress that juice cannot replace whole foods, as you’ve had a fair amount of fiber lost from the greens during the juicing process.

Nevertheless, green juice still shows its great power in anti-aging and detoxification.

The base of green juice often includes cruciferous vegetables and herbs, they are packed with vitamins A B, C, E, and K— all skin-supportive nutrients. A compound called sulforaphane found in leafy greens is also known as an anti-cancer agent. High amounts of folate and iron in dark leafy greens also assist cell synthesis and body function repair.

Consumption of important nutrients in leafy greens is proved to prevent skin aging. They can also help get rid of visible signs such as eye wrinkles, smile lines, discolored skin patches, and dark spots. By juicing them, you’ll not only get the vitamins and minerals but unwanted toxins in your body will also get flushed out easily, eventually result in better skin. Include green juice in your organic skincare routine and you’ll see flying colors in no time.

3. Benefits of This Juice in the Morning

It is important to keep in mind that juices can only take the role of a healthy addition and will never be an ideal meal substitute. You should not replace either your breakfast, lunch, or dinner with a bucket of green juice and presuming that you’ve made progress in any eat-clean or weight-loss journey.

A single-serving cup of green juice will work best as a pair for the main dish or a light and simple brunch at your workplace. Adding it to your breakfast can also do the trick of making you feel full longer and not sweating it out waiting for the next meal to come.

Juice Cleanse Day 1, Green Juice Recipe

Yesterday was the first day of my cleanse. It was also a weird day. Weird because it was January 1st, New Year’s Day. The night before, I went to a New Year’s Eve dinner party and it was a serious feast! I left the party very full and didn’t get to bed until 3am. Not my normal schedule, so Day 1 of the cleanse ended up being a little different.

I woke up around 11am still feeling full from the night before. I didn’t end up having my first juice until 3:30pm.

I drank only about 32 oz of juice throughout the whole day. I will probably have more today, since I woke up earlier and have a full day ahead of me. The “Reboot” program recommends 4-6 16-20 oz juices each day. (so I really drank only 1/2 the recommended amount of juice).

I drank only green juice (recipe below). Today I am going to make the same green juice again, but also experiment with another kind of juice too. Probably carrot.

I also didn’t remember to drink a lot of water on Day 1. I did have a big coconut water and some detox tea, but today I’m going to drink a lot more water (very important to help wash toxins out of your body during a cleanse)!

The only time that was hard for me was when my boyfriend was eating dinner. I kept smelling his food. So I got a couple of different teas and a coconut water so I felt like I had some variety.

Day 1 stats:

Energy level: High for most of the day, because I felt totally READY for this cleanse. I didn’t really want food at all.
Exercise:
I went to a basic/restorative yoga class at 4:30pm after I had some juice. It felt great.
Sleep: I actually didn’t sleep very well at all last night. I kept waking up hungry! I don’t think I drank enough juice.
Weight after Day 1: down 2.2 lbs
$ spent on juice ingredients: $36.89 (these ingredients will carry on to today, so hopefully I won’t have to spend that much every day. Also, I bought organic produce so the price is a little higher than conventional).
Feeling: a little headachey, but pretty good!

Green Juice Recipe:
This is the recipe for the “Mean Green” juice that Joe Cross and Phil Staples drink on “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.” Makes about 16-20 oz of juice depending on your juicer/size of produce.

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 1/2 a lemon
  • 1 inch ginger root

Clearly, I multiplied this recipe to make more juice for the day.

So there you have it!! 1 day down, 9 to go. It’s way more fun to do this when I know I’ll be sharing my experience with you guys.

Best of luck to anyone else who is on a cleanse. I got a lot of feedback yesterday from people who are doing their own cleanse. Definitely comment below and let me know how yours is going.

At this point in the summer, it's far too hot to turn on the oven, the stove, or really do anything. All you want is something fresh, clean and effortless. So, do you grab a juice for $7? Sure . or, you could grab your blender. (No, you don't need some fancy juice extractor.)

A blender is all you need (and we know some really good ones!) to make these five juices from "The Ultimate Book of Modern Juicing," by Mimi Kirk, a raw food expert who, glowing at age 77, is a pretty solid poster-person for the health benefits of juicing.

"Blended drinks take minutes to prepare and the cleanup is quick," notes Kirk, who adds that blended juices tend to be more filling and supply more fiber than juices made with an extractor.

Cleanse Me

If you want to jump-start yet another scorching day with a fresh juice but don't have much prep time — and, really, who does? — Kirk suggests washing all the ingredients for your juice the night before. Wrap them in paper towels in an airtight container or zip-top bag in the fridge.

The Happy Berry

"In the morning just add water and the washed produce to your blender," says Kirk. "In minutes you will have a delicious, nutritious drink. Don’t have time to clean your blender? Fill with soapy water until you get home."

Let It Beet

Juices aren't just for breakfast, though. They're a good "slump time" snack, says Kirk, and also great before and after workouts. A pre-workout juice "can be a quick way to get the energy boosting fuel needed for an efficient workout by helping you maintain stamina and endurance," says Kirk.

Game on

"Post workout drinks can replenish your energy and curb your appetite and cravings for unhealthy quick-fix foods that might contain sugars. Drinking vegetables with a little fruit can supply you with the necessary vitamins and minerals to help you maintain a healthy body."
